two main themes in Myung-Sook’s work are image and concept.
Her images and concepts are related to the artistic imaging representation of, for instance, water, wall, wind, seed, soil, soul, love, passion, fire, mountain, forest and sea.
Her coherence and tenacity towards the themes are expressed in several forms like minimal image, conceptual thinking and symbolic speculation.
Her work forms a matrix of changing combinations of codes. She confronts the vacuous paper with her own method of communication through drawing, etching, punching, lithographing, embossing and coloring.
Precise geometrical division leads to the simplicity, homogeneity and uniqueness.
She brings us to the diversity, heterogeneity and hybridity before we recognize it.
Without severe self-restraint, It is impossible to express her own mind which is rooted in korea history and thinking. Through the juxtaposition of fine art and characteristic concept of korea, She deconstructs our secret aura as the object of idea and reconstructs the object for enjoyment.
It is an unique metaphor of artistic thinking, cosmic circulation and natural rhythm.
What a stunning aesthetic dream in this fleeting world ( critic; Prof, Kim, Seung-Hwan )
